Novel Design
This project focused on redesigning an existing book cover, back, and spine. At the time, I had just finished reading a few novels written by Kurt Vonnegut and Slaughterhouse Five was the final decision. The title was switched to the alternative and less popular title, The Children’s Crusade, to match Vonnegut’s theme of children at war.
An important aspect to keep in mind with this design was Vonnegut's striking plot. With a story as imaginative as this, the cover needed to be a proper reflection.
Another important factor to consider was the color scheme and type choice. The colors needed to be striking as well as work together in a legible manner.
The choice for the main graphic was the "Tralfamadorian"; an alien race that plays a brief but vital role in the novel's plot.
